In today’s episode we are joined by Andrew Farrugia from Mirror Friendly. Andrew is a former sprinter, and he is now a fitness athlete and personal trainer. He has helped countless people get back into shape, and has also helped other athletes who want to compete in their sport.

Apart from being a fitness fanatic, Andrew has a demanding job as the CFO of a busy marina in Malta. We discuss work-life balance as we can all learn from Andrew on this topic. After a hard day’s work as CFO, Andrew always manages to find the time to hit the gym for around 2 hours to complete his training and help others.

In this episode, we discuss SMART goals, the importance of lifestyle and long-term changes rather than fads and diets. We talk about the importance of food when we embark on a transformative journey.

We also get into measurement and tracking, and how important that is to check that we are making progress every week.

Later in the episode we dig deeper into the question of food and its preparation. It turns out that food is way more important than training in building a healthy body, although the two go hand in hand. I think many people underestimate the role of food.

Another problem that we tackle is late night snacking. Jean manages to stay away from the bad stuff by simply not keeping any unhealthy foods in the cupboards at home.

We also talk about the fast food culture versus mindfulness. Jean gives the example of how he uses his morning coffee making routine as part of his meditation.

Were you aware of how much sugar is in your drinks?

In this episode, we get to know David Henzel from Managing Happiness.

David Henzel is well known in the WordPress community for being one of the co-founders of MaxCDN. He has been published in Inc., Venture Beat, Huffington Post, Fast Company and countless other large publications. He’s currently working on both a course and a book, called Managing Happiness.

What you might not know is that he recently made some important changes in his life. He moved out of the USA and has settled in Bodrum, Turkey. While he continues to advise and mentor start ups, he has sold his share of MaxCDN and now works on a course for managing happiness in your married life. This was the result of a realization that the same principles we learn when managing a business can be applied to our relationships.

In this episode, David talks about his early days in the business world up till the days of MaxCDN and what made him decide to sell it. We then talk about his decision to live his life with more meaning, and his quest to make a more positive impact in the world.

This is a very interesting episode for all those of you who don’t know David and his projects. For those of you who know him from his WordPress days, you might be unfamiliar with his current project and this is an ideal way to catch up with what David’s up to nowadays.

I’m impressed by David’s success and introspection, and I definitely learned a good number of lessons in this podcast.
